American Legion Programs & Awards
Programs are the cornerstone of the American Legion. Members of Post 371 and it's affiliated organizations place great importance on community involvement, and participate in many programs and activities (too numerous to list them all) for veterans & their families, young people, and our community.
On Memorial Day members of Post 371 and it's affiliate organizations visit various locations throughtout the area, including cemeteries and memorials, honoring America's veterans, it's ideals and quest for Freedom.
On July 4th, celebrating our country's birthday, Post 371 and it's Auxiliary Unit, SAL Squadron, and Legion Riders lead the annual Independence Day parade led by our Honor Guard, and afterwards participating in post parade ceremonies and community picnic.
Post 371 also sponsors a number of young men each year who are selected to attend the prestigious American Legion Jersey Boys State program at Rider University. And Auxiliary Unit 371 sponsors young women to the equally prestigious Jersey Girls State Program held at Georgian Court University.
The national Blue Star Banner program, showing a family's pride in loved ones serving in the military, is strongly supported by members of Post 371, it's Auxiliary, SAL's and Legion Riders.
Veterans helping veterans is the foundation of Post 371. We continue to strengthen this foundation with our involvement with 'Stand Down of South Jersey,' an outreach program to assist homeless veterans and their family members through numerous services ranging from employment to medical help, from substance abuse programs to veterans benefits information. . . and more, MUCH MORE!
Members of SAL Squadron 371 build on this foundation of Veterans Helping Veterans by dedicating 100% of the proceeds from their Annual 'Fall Classic Golf Tournment' to the 'Higher Ground' program for severely injured combat veterans. A program designed to inspire hope as it encourages wounded warriors to believe in themselves using sports as a means of therapy and healing.
Our Flag Disposal program destroy United States flags that are too tattered, torn or faded for display in a dignified manner at one of our scheduled flag disposal ceremonies.
And our most honored tradition is our strong support of and our camaraderie with the veterans from the 'Vineland Veterans Memorial Home.'
As part of our Americanism Programs, our post sponsors several contests at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. In addition, Post 371 provide scholarships to deserving seniors of Eastern Regional High School, and provide substantial assistance to students seeking both the Department of New Jersey and National level scholarships.
We are also the proud sponsors of the Gibbsboro/Voorhees/West Berlin American Legion Baseball Team in District 4.
